Feeling like a celerbity...

Have you ever seen me on the Sheridan's website? It is very exciting to see myself on the home page of Sheridan College. I also was featured on the YouTube for 2 seconds.  I also heard that I am on the Sheridan's Shuttle Bus as well - I haven't seen it yet! If you have seen it, please take a picture of it!

How did it happen? I saw the status on Sheridan College Faculty of Business's page that they were looking for the models for the future promotions. I decided to email them with my name and program - good thing they did not ask for my head-shot.  A few days, I was selected for some random reason!  That's how it happened! It was last spring and it was really fun to interact with others. I learned that two of the students I met that were on my OCMC team.  My favourite thing during this photo session was teaching this student named Humza Imran who was also my teammate for OCMC for sign language of ABC's.

What Would You Do?

Let me to tell you about my experience at the Gap Store on last Wednesday  (Feb. 12/14). My mom and I would like to get something for my neiece who lives in Mexico so we could give some gifts for her that my cousin would fly over there in Mexico for her work as she would meet up with my neiece.

My mom and I decided to check out the Gap Kids Store. It was the quiet because it was on a Wednesday night.  There was the corner of the section that was for baby so we went over there. I noticed two ladies with one kid in the baby cart and they were talking with one of the staffs there. Once I got there, I noticed this lady who gave me the funny feeling - I knew something would happen - as she walked around the shelf but made the looks on me. I thought it was strange to see her acting so funny when she tried to check out the staff.  Another lady was chatting with this staff but my feeling told me that she was trying to get her attention so she couldn't check out another lady to do something.  I decided not to look any items in that section as I wanted to watch what the hell are those ladies doing? I knew something would not be right about them.

A few minutes later, the staff went out of the section while this lady quickly grabbed the items into her bags in the FRONT OF ME!  I was shocked as soon as I saw them trying to run away from the section. The staff returned and noticed them leaving and she actually said "Have a good day". I was like I can't let them leave! I decided to report on that staff, and I made the gestures like " They STOLE" and she understood me quickly then reported to her manager. Too bad the ladies left quickly before they could have stopped them.

This situation reminds me of "What would you do" tv show.

I even made sure if it was the real situation or was i being filmed? Not soon, I realized it was the real situation! None of cameras guys came out!

After this situation, I wondered if I would have done more than that, like chasing after them - not to let them leave quickly. I wish I could use my scream to stop and scare them!

So I decided to post my experience on my Facebook status to see what they say about should I have done more than that?

What would you do if you witnessed anyone stealing the items at store?

NFL's Derrick Coleman, Seattle Seahawks

Have you seen this commercial? Click here to view the commercial

It is the powerful and inspiration commercial for people who are not aware of the Deaf people’s struggles and what their life looks like.

When I watched this video, and I do have my own opinions about it and  I also had a discussion with my friends who are Deaf. We all agreed that it is an impressive commercial, because it shows the awareness about Deaf Culture and their struggles that are unnoticeable but are common in our experience and life which is normal for us. My friends and I were very excited to learn that NFL has been accepting all players if even they are Deaf for example, this player, Derrick Coleman (Click here to learn more about him) was selected to play for Seattle Seahawks. However, of course we do have our opinion either positive or negative. Derrick Coleman considers himself as a Deaf person which we really respect his choice because we believe in our Deaf culture that all people who consider themselves as Deaf even if they can’t hear, cant’ speak , can speak or can hear.  “Deaf” does not mean all of us can’t hear, it is a something to identify us because Deaf itself has its own culture, language, norm, and history.

Now, Derrick admit that he does not use sign to communicate because he uses hearing aids to hear and read lips however it has been a struggle life for him to be a part of "football world.  So, we wish that the commercial can include some sign language to raise awareness for the world that we do have our own language to communicate. We don't not want people to assume that we all could read lips or hear well if we had our hearing aids because this commercial obviously did not show any sign languages.  My friends and I had good debates about this but we all agreed that we were happy to see how the companies step out of comfort zone to include all diversity, disabilities or culture for their commercials.

What do you think after you saw this commercial; did it change your feeling or perspective toward Deaf community, or Duracell itself?
